Meet the STARBASE PETERSON Team

 STARBASE Peterson Director

Sarah has a career spanning more than 20 years and a variety of educational roles. She is passionate about bringing the love of STEM to youth of all ages and backgrounds.

After moving back and forth between the USA and Europe several times as an Air Force spouse, her family settled in Colorado Springs in 2014. She taught 5th grade for two years in CSSD11, bringing her students to STARBASE  both  years before joining the STARBASE team as a full time instructor in 2017. In October 2021 Sarah moved into the role of Director where she continues working to share the DOD STARBASE program with as many of our community's youth as possible.

 Office Manager

Mike moved to Colorado Springs via California to become the office administrator at Starbase Peterson in February 2022. Prior to this he spent 20 years teaching Chemistry in a UK high school. He is passionate about STEM projects after having the opportunity to spend the early years of his career working as an industrial chemist in the oil industry. Mike is now looking forward to inspiring the next generation of STEM professionals through the Starbase program.

Instructor

Carolyn moved to Colorado Springs after receiving her Bachelor's degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from Indiana University. Living in Indiana her whole life, she is enjoying all of the beautiful scenery that Colorado has to offer. She loves all things math and working with students. 

Carolyn joined the STARBASE team in September 2021 and is excited to begin her teaching career here!  

Instructor

Indigo is a recent graduate from UCCS where she received her bachelor’s in Elementary

Education. She is a Colorado native and moved to Colorado Springs in 2015 from a small

mountain town. She enjoys reading, ice skating, playing with her puppy, and playing board

games with her family. She is a lifetime lover of all things science and is excited to share that

passion with students. 

Indigo joined STARBASE in 2022 and helped pilot a 2.0 program to extend

STEM curriculum to middle schoolers.

Instructor

With a dad in the military, Madison grew up moving around the United States before she landed in Colorado with her family in 2007. She has always had a love for math and decided she wanted to be a math teacher when she was in middle school. She also loves music and has been playing the viola for 15 years, performing with the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony at Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House while in high school. 

Madison graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with an emphasis in Secondary Education from the University of Northern Colorado in 2022. She substitute taught in Denver during the fall of 2022 and landed at Starbase in February of 2023. She is very excited to teach STEM to students in her first classroom.

Instructor

Rebekah grew up in a military family and has lived all over the United States, in Panama, and in

Germany. She graduated from Colorado State University-Pueblo with a Bachelor of Arts in

applied mathematics and French. She continued her STEM education with numerous master’s

level classes in molecular biology, microbiology, and organic chemistry while completing

research for a NASA funded project about life surviving in extreme environments.

She has taught reading and math interventions for kindergarten through fifth grade in District 11,

taught art in District 49 elementary schools, and has worked for the Colorado Department of

Higher Education through their GEARUP Program at Mitchell High School, where she prepared

low-income high school students to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.

Rebekah is delighted to work at STARBASE and share her passion for STEM with students all

over Colorado Springs.

Instructor/2.0 Coordinator

Lynne joined STARBASE after teaching high school science in Massachusetts and New Mexico for 23 years.  During that time, she also coordinated several high school Science Fairs and coached BEST robotics and Science Olympiad teams.  She moved to Colorado Springs in 2018.  Lynne enjoys traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
